The Healing Power of Aromatherapy Bath

The greatest recipient of the four elements is water, demonstrated in the work of Dr Emoto when he captured the impact of words and intent on the water molecules visually and then extended the theory of how we are impacted by our own words, thoughts and intent, being we are reportedly up to 90% water.

Since ancient times, water has been symbolic of purifying the body and is known for its ability to cleanse the mind. From the hammams of Morocco and the onsen hot springs of Japan to the saunas and cold plunges of Scandinavia, water is the conduit through which we refresh and renew body and soul.

Additionally, Hippocrates believed 30 minutes in an aromatherapy bath would be the best routine for improving health and well-being.

So, to extend these wonderful qualities of water, one thing you can do for yourself that will give you an additional sense of calmness, inner peace, and luxury is to have an aromatherapy bath soak.

Adding to your bath essential oils that can be relaxing, stimulating or tonifying will come down to the blend you create. This is where the beauty lies; it is relatively easy to create, you can experiment with your own blends, and alter them depending on preference, the mood you are in, or the intention you want to set.

So here is how you can create a beautiful, aromatherapy bath to add to your daily ritual:

  • Run your bath and when you feel it has reached the right level. Add together 4 to 5 drops of your favourite blend into a carrier oil – jojoba, olive or coconut into the still bath water. Agitate the water to disperse the oil.
  • Relax in your bath for 20 to 30 minutes, allowing the essential oils to penetrate the skin and to inhale the aromatic vapours.
  • You may want to pick some essential oils that support the particular chakra you are focussing on and create an intention to support it.

Alternatively, here are a few suggested blends:

  • Relaxing Blend, try a blend of ylang ylang, vanilla and rose.
  • Invigorating Blend, try a blend of grapefruit and lavender.
  • Tonifying Blend, try rosemary, juniper and lemon.

The therapeutic benefits of a bath, and more so an aromatherapy bath, is something that I am eternally grateful for, and I can give myself any time I need a lift or a little “me” time. I hope you find time to give yourself a little gift of paradise.

Most of all, enjoy!
