A Day in the Life of a Sound Healer

Being a sound healer means that no two days are ever the same. My work is a blend of one-on-one client sessions, group sound baths, weekend workshops, planning, and admin. It’s a dynamic and rewarding life, but it also involves a lot of preparation and behind-the-scenes work to make each healing experience as powerful as possible.

Packing, Unpacking, and Setting Up – a Continuous Cycle!

Before any session or event, I spend time packing my instruments. My car is often loaded with singing bowls, gongs, drums, percussion instruments, keyboard, and various decorative accessories. There’s an art to fitting it all in! I take great care to wrap my instruments in colourful scarves, soft tea towels, and proper padded cases. Protecting them is a priority since they are not only valuable tools but also extensions of my creative self. I actually enjoy the ritual of packing and unpacking them and see this as an integral part of my practice.

For group sound baths or workshops, setting up involves arranging instruments and decor, creating a comfortable space, and ensuring the energy in the room is clear for participants’ arrival. If I know set-up time will be limited, I’ll clear the energy remotely before I leave. Planning is an integral part of how I play. I always outline the instruments I will use, any songs I might feature, and how I'll weave elements of those songs into the sound bath. Sometimes, I focus on specific harmonising intervals or rhythmic patterns, sometimes I incorporate an overarching theme such as “support during times of transition” or “deep inner peace”. But I still leave room for flexibility, allowing me to adapt to the group energy at the time. It's a mix of preparation, intuition, and adaptation.

One-on-One Client Sessions – Tuning into the Individual

For individual sessions, whether it’s an in-person sound healing experience or an online energy healing treatment, I set up a consultation room with intention. I light candles, clear the space, and take time to centre myself. A key part of my process is the 20-30 minute meditation I do before a client arrives or signs in. This helps me clear my mind, tune into the energy of the space, and connect with the client before we meet. I often already have questions prepared based on the insights I receive during meditation.

When working with individual clients, my approach is more spontaneous than in group contexts. I select instruments and frequencies based on the client's energy and needs in that moment. It’s about tuning into where they are and responding with the right sounds or energetic techniques to help them release tension and find balance.

Staying in Shape: Mind, Body, and Spirit

It’s essential for me to stay balanced physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I exercise regularly, including cardio and yoga several times a week. I focus on eating healthy and staying hydrated. I’m not vegan but my body does prefer simple foods and, while I do enjoy the odd glass of rose’, I find that alcohol and intuitive work don’t mix well for me. Physical health is an imperative in this field and key to staying grounded.

My spiritual practice is also important. I meditate daily, usually in the morning before my kids are up, and I journal three pages most days. I recently revisited The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, which I recommend to anyone in the wellness or creative fields—or honestly, to anyone who wants to tap into their own creativity and inner self.

I also see a psychologist on and off. Talk therapy helps me maintain my mental health and adds balance to all the intuitive work I do. It’s part of my commitment to self-care and ensures I show up fully for my clients, students, and, especially, my family.

Balancing Work, Family, and Fur-babies– The Juggle is Real!

As a solo parent raising two teenagers, my days are a balancing act. I love spending time with my kids, and my home is also filled with the joyful energy of our four cats and dog. Being with my pets is a source of comfort and grounding. I often joke that they are my top sound healing clients—though they usually just sleep through my playing!

I don't socialise much outside of family and work right now. With the intensity of the world’s current energy, being a bit of a hermit feels right for me. I’m sure many of you who are reading understand this—there’s so much information and turbulence in the world, and it can be overwhelming, especially for empaths.

The Joy of Collaborating with Others

I also enjoy collaborating with other practitioners, whether it’s coaching wellness professionals or co-facilitating a group session. At the moment, I’m working with my colleague Bruce on an event where I’ll accompany his guided meditation with sound. Planning this event is a joy, and working together brings fresh inspiration. It’s a wonderful – and fun – way to combine our skills to create something truly unique.

A Deep Love for My Work

No matter if I’m working with an individual or a group, my goal is the same: to create a space where people can deeply relax and connect with themselves. Individual sessions allow me to go deep with one person’s energy, while group work focuses on harmonising the collective energy. Each setting has its own magic.

If you're interested in experiencing sound healing, whether as an in-person one-on-one session, an online energy healing session, or harnessing the power group energy, I’d love to connect. My practice offers a safe, welcoming space for anyone seeking healing, relaxation, or simply a chance to pause and breathe in this busy world.

Every day as a sound healer is a beautiful adventure. I am grateful for the opportunity to help others find balance and harmony through sound and energy work. And while the work can be physically and emotionally demanding, it is also deeply fulfilling. I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.
