Reiki is a traditional Japanese healing art that was rediscovered by Mikao Usui in the early... Reiki is a traditional Japanese healing art that was rediscovered by Mikao Usui in the early 1900s. It’s known as a hands-on healing modality that calms the nervous system as well as physical and mental imbalances. The word "Reiki" is of Japanese origin and means Universal Life Force Energy. Although Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not aligned with any particular religion and is a very gentle practice. ‘Rei’ = Universal | ‘Ki‘ = Spirit or energy The Reiki system that Birte practices is Komyo Reiki Do, a keep-it-simple Reiki practice based on the Japanese aesthetic of Less is more. The motto is: Place your hands, surrender and smile. The system was founded by Hyakuten Inamoto Sensei in 1998. ‘Komyo’ = Light or illumination | ‘Reiki’ = Universal life force energy | ‘Do’ = Spiritual path or way Distance Reiki works in the same way as standard Reiki, but the Reiki practitioner does not need to be physically present. Energy is present everywhere and can transcend physical space and time. During a Distance Reiki session, Birte will connect with your energy field by using sacred symbols, including a 'distance symbol'. As a practitioner, she works as a channel or conduit for the energy, rather than the source of it. This means that she doesn’t interfere with anything and that everything happens for your own good. Birte may use different hand placements on a proxy object, but the Reiki energy flows to where it's needed the most in your body. During a session, you may experience tingling, warmth/cold, muscle twitching or vibration. If you don’t feel anything, that’s absolutely ok and normal as well. Read more
