Karine is a Senior Yoga Teacher and Certified Yoga Therapist with a background in Research, Policy Advocacy and Social Sciences. She has been teaching Yoga since 2007 and practicing yoga over 4 decades. Karine specialises in synchronised breath-focused yoga for wellbeing. She collaborates in developing a Yoga Therapy practice, designed with clients as a daily routine in addressing any specific individual imbalance. Karine studied Yoga Therapy with Yoga Therapy Australia (YTA) and with Yoga Vaidya Sala in India, and has regularly returned to Chennai slowly gaining greater insights with world esteemed teacher Dr NC. She is a graduate of the Yoga Institute holding an original 1000-hour Yoga Teacher Training Diploma in the Krishnamacharya tradition and is accredited as a Mentor by the KYM in India. Karine is also holds a degree in literature, a first class honours in Social Science and a Honours Masters in Housing Research. She retired from a leadership position in the NSW Co-operative Housing sector in 2010 and taught for 4 years in Community and Social Sciences at TAFE NSW Sydney Institute. Since becoming qualified in Yoga Therapy in 2014, Karine has worked with her clients to address specific concerns at physical, emotional and spiritual levels. With each client, she undertakes an individual assessment, collaborating to identify healing goals, and design a therapeutic yoga practice to incorporate into their daily routine. Client and therapist identify replacing any habits, patterns, or tendencies that no longer serve the individual well by replacing them with new patterns. During yoga therapy, Karine works in a co-creative partnership to identify underlying concerns and to address both symptom and cause. As a yoga teacher, Karine guides students through gentle Hatha / Vinyasa yoga practice, focusing primarily on the flow of energy with the breath, incorporating guidance for individual healing. Karine's former career in research, advocacy and community development, together with years of practising yoga, serves her well in embarking on her Yoga journey, striving for excellence in teaching and facilitating wellbeing as a Yoga Therapist. In 2015, Karine was appointed as the President of the Australian Association of Yoga Therapists and remained in this role until Nov 2020. She was a founding member of the Global Yoga Therapy Consortium (GYTC) in Japan in 2017 and party to the Yoga Therapy Declaration in Sendai on behalf of AAYT. She has been an international speaker at the Asian Yoga Therapy Association Conference (Singapore in 2021) a Speaker at the GYTC in Sendai (2017) and a Speaker at the United Consciousness Conclave (2020 and 2021). She was also invited to present at the Reconciliation and Yoga Event on the NSW South Coast in early 2021. She is currently on the Board of United Consciousness, India and Global, working on accreditation. Karine teaches from her new studio in Sydney and values working in a supportive community of dedicated yoga practitioners. One of the many things that Karine most enjoys about yoga is the wonderful alchemy of knowing that, “as you give, so you receive”. She loves seeing the energy of others blossoming and witnessing their transformation. Karine’s work is to catalyse self-healing in others, engaging with those turning to yoga therapy to precipitate healing and enhance understanding of self and genuine wellness. Her aim within the yoga therapy community is to progress mutually identified goals that reflect recognition of this powerful pathway for attaining total wellness. Read more
