Miriam is a traditional herbalist who is passionate about sharing knowledge, connecting community and returning to our medical roots. Whilst she draws on the dynamics of Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, her focus, expertise and passion is in the western herbal tradition, which she studied deeply during an intensive three year, one-on-one mentorship following the completion of her diploma. The beauty of the traditional western lens is that it is deeply rooted in both the physical body and the psyche, with dynamics that seamlessly connect the two. Whilst modern herbal medicine and naturopathy have become increasingly medicalised, Miriam understands that a return to the traditional roots of medicine is necessary for an integrated approach. She knows that the body and mind are one, and that dis-ease is both personal and transpersonal, individual and collective. Miriam treats all manner of health imbalances. A session does not only map your physical symptoms, but also the relationship between your symptoms and your psyche - or as the Greeks termed it - soul. She loves helping people 'connect the dots', making sense of what once appeared to be separate pieces of their story. She is also a firm believer in the co-creation and collaboration between patient and practitioner. There is no 'rule book' to health - it is dynamic, emergent and responsive, and this is reflected in the way in which she creates health plans and protocols that are accessible, do-able, realistic and relevant to each person and their life. Each patient is cared for deeply, with Miriam focussing on home-grown, local and hand made medicines that are custom created for each patient, ensuring specificity and high quality medicine that reclaims folk customs, promotes slow medicine and rejects the industrialisation and commercialisation of modern practice. She also facilitates regular workshops, speaks at festivals, and runs a community herbal platform called the Open Heart Apothecary, which is a vehicle through which people can connect to each other, their roots and nature through herbal education. Miriam welcomes you to join her for a refreshing and unique approach to natural health care that brings together her knowledge of modern biomedicine and the holistic wisdom of the western tradition for an experience that is ultimately guided by you, and your definition of what 'health' is.
