Mick is an acupuncturist and remedial massage therapist who uses the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine to help his clients achieve peak health and vitality. Predominantly treating chronic and acute pain, Mick also helps his clients manage stress, as well as offering trauma release exercises, which help to down regulate the nervous system, discharge the stress and relax your entire body. A facilitator of wellbeing since 2004, Mick has trained in relaxation massage, sports massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, Indian head massage, nutrition, anatomy, health and fitness. He studied Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture at the Irish College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, graduating in 2010. After spending three years teaching in Ireland, Mick relocated to Melbourne, establishing his practice there in 2013. Mick says over time, his perspective on health and wellness has evolved to incorporate modern scientific methodology and practices. Drawn to a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of dis-ease and illness and how it manifests, Mick believes acupuncture is an evidence-based medicine with a solid scientific foundation. Most recently, Mick’s training in trauma release exercises has given him a deeper scientific understanding of tai chi, Qigong – the transformative practice that prompted him to pursue his career in complementary therapies - and energy work. He has undertaken extensive research into the science of breath, meditation and flow and the physiological mechanisms of trauma. This deeper scientific understanding underpins his many years of training and study in energy work. Working in partnership to help shake off the “old you” and give birth to a “new you” filled with health, vitality and happiness, Mick strives to ensure you always feel better leaving the clinic than when you came in. Mick says his real reward comes with seeing people’s pain subside, along with improvements in the way his clients look, feel and talk following his treatments. Read more

In the initial consultation session, we formulate a treatment plan and in order to do this we go through various diagnostic procedures, including tongue diagnosis, pulse diagnosis and talking. I will ask you many questions and many of these may appear quite unusual, however, they are essential to build a complete picture from a TCM perspective and determine the pattern of disharmony causing the illness, pain etc. A treatment plan will then be tailored to your individual needs including acupuncture and other techniques such as cupping and massage if appropriate. Trauma Release Exercises (TRE)

Once fatigued the muscles usually start to shake or tremor. Our goal then is to let this happen and allow the tremors to move through the body in order to help it to relax and discharge all of the stress related energy which has built up. TRE doesn’t specifically have to be tremoring or shaking and may sometimes take the form of stretching or myofascial release or spontaneous movement. The key is to listen to the body and allow it to express itself as it needs and wants to in order to ultimately achieve a state of peaceful relaxation. Once the tremors or stretches start, the rules are out the window and we allow free expression, in as much as we are capable of at any given moment. Read more
