However, to truly experience yoga’s potential, purpose and power, we must look to its foundation text, Patanjali’s yoga sutras. Compiled over 2,300 years ago, the yoga sutras is regarded as the definitive text on yoga. In succinct multi-layered aphorisms, the sutras illuminate the nature of and relationship between consciousness, reality and the mind. When clearly explained, the yoga sutras is a complete guidebook for living with strategies to reduce suffering, reconnect with our inner GPS, and create rich lives filled with confidence, wisdom and joy. While most yoga teachers and yoga therapist trainings learn up to 4 hours of the yoga sutras, TKV Desikachar taught that if one wants to know the complete system of yoga and be qualified to teach, one must have deep understanding of and relationship with yoga’s core text. To this end, Robert studied the sutras word-by-word for over 10 years during his time in India and continues to study them on a regular basis, learning more about yoga, life, the mind and the nature of reality with each revisiting. As a teacher, he unpacks these on an individual level and how they apply to you.
