Marie is a Birri Gubba woman from Ayr North Queensland, who also honours her connection to her South Sea Islander ancestors of Ambae Island. Marie would like to acknowledge the First Nations People of the lands, waters and seas in which we all live. She pays respects to our ancestors past, elders present and those who are and will continue to keep the fight and culture alive. She is a Wayapa Wuurrk practitioner, a reiki therapist and crystal healer who is passionate about supporting people through guidance, instilling courage and providing access to essential tools on their journeys toward self-empowerment, self-determination and holistic wellbeing. Marie strives to create culturally safe spaces for people to connect and learn. In her Wayapa workshops, she says participants doing the physical movements start to feel a sense of purpose and a connection to the earth. Marie says we all have one thing in common - which is that we all live on Mother Earth and we’re responsible for how we look after her - so she works to connect people to the importance of looking after the earth. Her focus is on bringing people’s mindfulness back to that. With an extensive background in community services, including working with women and children experiencing domestic violence, Marie says many of her women clients are closed down and tense when they first arrive for a healing session. She aims to create a safe space where they can feel comfortable and then work to heal themselves. Marie believes reiki is similar to Aboriginal traditional healing. She uses complete touch and checks if her clients are happy for her to remove blockages. For those who don’t want physical touch, she uses narrative meditation. Crystals have a special connection with mother earth and help to ground people and restore balance, according to Marie. Marie says she loves seeing the weight lift or the “a ha” moment happen for her clients, when a different spark of light or energy comes to them. Marie invites anyone to “have a yarn” with her in the first place to discuss her services and how she can work together. Read more
