A healing arts practitioner and trauma sensitive retreats leader, who specialises in trauma recovery and embodiment. Kendra is an IAYT and AAYT registered Yoga Therapist and an expert in mind/body skill-building with a focus on safely re-connecting her clients to their body so that they may engage more fully with their life. With almost 34 years of experience, Kendra began her career as an exercise scientist, which soon evolved into a certified Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga facilitator, offering yoga therapy, reflexology and meditation. Kendra strongly believes in the body’s ability to self-heal and self-regulate and says in the current climate, too many people are denied this. Her clients receive a highly individualised self-care plan, which includes an integrated hands-on approach using clinical reflexology and yoga therapy, empowering them to be active participants in their own healing at a time when modern medicine fails to offer lasting health solutions. Kendra says most mental health problems are a disembodiment problem, when anxiety takes someone out of their body, removes their sense of ground, sense of safety and ability to be in the present moment. She believes that if you can treat underlying trauma, you can treat mental health. Her success comes from teaching people the ability to self-regulate so if they go home and develop their own yoga practice, they start to know what they’re working with and understand themselves better. She is also a strong advocate for supporting her clients to develop a deeper connection to the felt sense of their body to inform choice-making, cultivate a sense of agency. Kendra builds relationships with her clients that encourage insights about self, others and the world through regular communication and meditation practice; embracing individual uniqueness; reversing habitual stress patterns; learning different ways to move and breathe; regaining healthy biorhythms and developing effective home practices including meditation and yoga. Kendra envisions a health care system where vitally important traditional practices like yoga therapy and clinical reflexology are integrated and respected as preventative medicine, bringing self-empowerment and healing to a financially overburdened system.
