Michael is a forest immersion guide who works with people to deepen their connection with nature and to navigate changes in life. On his intentionally slow, guided forest walks, Michael encourages his clients to go beyond their five senses and relearn the language of our connection with nature. He nurtures a sense of curiosity about the natural world, even getting participants to have conversations with plants and trees. Activities include nature sculpture, constructing things from natural objects; and mindfulness and meditation. Each walk finishes with a tea ceremony and picnic in a special location. Michael aims to find forest locations with 70% canopy cover, which makes the environment more beneficial because the phytoncides. He currently holds these sessions in the Royal National Park and in the Jervis Bay area. His clients report feelings of bonding with their families, of coming to terms with grief and gaining new insights into their own nature through the physical experience of being in nature. Michael believes there is a sense of release, reflection and a childlike playfulness that helps people get out of their knowing mind and into their curious mind on a walk. The medicinal benefits like the lowering of cortisol, feeling grounded, increased awareness and openness can occur in people many days after a walk, according to Michael. His coaching program, developed over four years, is designed for people going through various life transitions. The “seven-milestone” course shows people how to access transformation and deal with uncertainty as they explore the unknown. Meeting every person is a gift for Michael, as he learns something from every interaction. He loves holding space for people to do difficult things as they navigate new terrain, and build new competence and confidence. With experience in coaching and family constellations, Michael also runs men’s groups on a regular basis in his community. Read more
