Merryl is a Nature Reconnection facilitator who feels privileged to work in a way that honours the living culture of this land so deeply. Walking her path with integrity, Merryl is a non-Indigenous woman who is deeply committed to listening to the wisdom teachings of First Nations people, and is incredibly grateful for the support and guidance she receives from her relationships with Elders. A Dadirri session with Merryl, which can be one-on-one or in a group, in person or online, is all about slowing down and listening deeply to the land; an antidote to the busy-ness of our lives. "By gifting ourselves time to reconnect to nature, we remember our true nature, and rediscover who we really are" Merryl says. Dadirri gives you the opportunity to embody your human ‘BE’ingness, to return to your breath in rhythm with the land, and to feel a sense of oneness and belonging that’s truly life affirming. As we listen deeply, we come home to ourselves and feel supported by the Earth and all of life around us, enabling us to be more present to others and build more loving relationships. Merryl says one of the key things people get from Dadirri is stress relief, as they let go of their worries and learn to be in the present moment - not getting attached to the future or being held by the past, but allowing yourself to have space and time savouring the present moment. Dadirri is for everyone and Merryl is skilled at facilitating Dadirri experiences for all ages and for various contexts. The benefits for each person are unique and always revelatory: children respond to Dadirri exceptionally well, feeling relaxed and at one with the bush; while adults often respond emotively, as they discover a forgotten way of being and remember who they really are. Dadirri also creates a joyful sense of wonder in children and adults alike that taps into the positive expression of who we are because you’re receiving beauty from simple pleasures, according to Merryl. Merryl is a Senior Teacher in Place Responsive Pedagogy at Pullenvale Environmental Educational Centre and it was her role there - which focuses on reconnecting children and adults with nature - that first led her to Dadirri more than 10 years ago. With permission to share Dadirri, it has also become a central aspect in Merryl’s work as a yoga and meditation teacher, and in hosting AirBnB retreats from her home. In 2019, Merryl did a life-changing trip with Yoga Australia to the Northern Territory where she had the honour of sitting in Dadirri with Miriam Rose Ungunmerr Baumann AM, an Aboriginal elder from Nauiyu and a renowned artist, activist, writer and public speaker (also Senior Australian of the Year 2021). Experiencing Dadirri in its birthplace, feeling the land giving voice to the language, and sharing spacious time with Miriam Rose was particularly meaningful for Merryl. She looks forward to connecting with you. Read more
