Certain cultural norms have often encouraged men to neglect their own needs and push self-care to the bottom of the to-do pile.
Join us for this enlightening online event as we come together to empower men, promote positive change and embrace the wisdom of Indigenous traditions in our collective journey toward improved men's health.
Men's Week is a global initiative that aims to highlight the unique health challenges faced by men and promote proactive approaches to wellbeing.
Australia, in particular, faces alarming mental health statistics among men. Depression and suicide rates are significantly higher among men than women, highlighting the urgent need to address the underlying factors contributing to this crisis.
Our fabulous facilitators Jamie Thomas (Wayapa Wuurrk), Michael Collins (Men’s Table) and Stuart Torrance (Men’s Shed) will delve into the important differences between addressing health for men and women, recognising that each requires tailored strategies to achieve optimal wellbeing.
They’ll explore what is working and what is not, and ask the question: can Indigenous wisdom and traditional practices provide a way forward in nurturing men's health?
First Nations peoples view health as an embodied state, emphasising the balance between physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Wayapa® co-founder Jamie Thomas will discuss the often missing element - Earth.
We will also explore the approaches that have proven successful and engage in meaningful discussions about the areas that require improvement, such as the significance of early intervention, dismantling societal expectations that hinder men from seeking help, and how we can encourage men to seek help without stigma.
Join us as we engage in thought-provoking discussions, hear from experts in the field and learn how we can collectively work towards creating a healthier and more inclusive environment for all men.
Together, we can make a difference in men's health and wellbeing.
